Purchase: I first fell in love with sheepskin about three years ago when I used my friend's saddle pad. I've used normal polyester fleece pads for years, but I had always wanted real sheepskin one. Two years ago I finally purchased one from Dover Saddlery for about $95.
Likes: At the time I bought the pad I had an all-purpose saddle. The pad not only fit this 17.5 dressage-looking saddle, but some how fit my 16.5 close contact saddle I purchased this year. This saddle pad is not only versatile, but also beautiful. I constantly get complements about it, and its good looking enough to go to the show ring. It is also not bulky under the horse. One of the most important things for me was how much it helps the horse's back. It especially benefits horses with sore backs. You can actually feel the change in the horses. One of the best things I found about this pad was maintenance. I wash it about every 4 months and it very rarely looks dirty, and a cup of Woolite always makes it look bright white again. Sweat has never been a problem with this pad, and it never seems to smell(a problem which I have had with a number of pads).
Dislikes: I have found hard to come up with any dislikes. The only thing is the price, but it outlasts normal pads by many times, so I believe its worth it.
Quality: The pad is made of pure sheepskin, with rolled edges to reduce bulk under the saddle. It has a quilted top. Mine is white, but it comes in natural and black also. Most of the under side of the pad is brown, which can't be seen on the horse. I like the brown because it hides dirt. I have found the quality exceptional. I ride 4 horses a day 6 days a week and I ALWAYS use this pad. I has withstood constant use for two years with little to no wear.
Summary: I have been more than pleased with this pad. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quality saddle pad who wants years of use out of it.
