Purchase: I bought the saddle through an online tack store and paid about $600 CDN, which included the saddle, a set of gullet plates, and shipping.
Likes: The saddle was acceptably comfortable to ride in. I liked the adjustable knee blocks. The color and synthetic leather material were durable and cleaned easily.
Dislikes: I bought the saddle for a horse with a fairly wide back. I found it simply didn't fit him well, because, while the adjustable gullets meant the width was acceptable, the shape wasn't correct - it was a wide, flat angle, that laid on top of his back, instead of a wide, curved angle that fitted around his back.
Quality: I also didn't like the saddle's quality or construction. After several gullet changes the saddle had a noticeable gap where the back of the flap joins the panels. Screwing in the gullet plate was relatively easy, but getting the cover screwed back on was next to impossible and the holes through the leather material were not protected, so the material stretched where the screws passed through.
Summary: The bottom line: I also own a Thorowgood synthetic saddle and have found the quality to be far superior. It has had hard riding for over five years now and still looks almost brand new. I had the Wintec for about a month, and based on the wear and tear its moving parts received in that time, I can't see it standing up as well. I've now sold it - I'm buying another Thorowgood.
