Purchase: I purchased these boots off of ebay, after having a hard time finding a retailer here in Canada. I used the "buy it now" option and bought them for $225 US. Here in Canada they are now retailing for $499 Canadian.
Likes: I LOVE the zippers up the back. I needed a new pair of field boots and was dreading the breaking in process. When I saw Ariat made boots with zippers I decided I had to have a pair. The zippers are very discreet, and function wonderfully. They have never gotten stuck or been hard to do up/down. The leather on the boots is great quality and the gel sole is so comfortable. I have slim calfs, but I can imagine the zippers would be a great addition for anyone who needs a "wide calf" boot. I will never again spend 10 minutes trying to get off a riding boot!
Dislikes: The only negative I can say about these, and this after thinking long and hard, is that the leather seems to be less scratch resistant than the pair of Effinghams I had before - but in all fairness I am hard on my boots. I walk around in them, drive in them, groom and do barn chores in them.
Quality: The quality of the leather is really great. As mentioned above, the zipper seems to be very good quality as well. I have only been using them for 3 months, so it is hard to tell what they will be like after a year + of use, but it looks like they will hold up well. The sole looks tough and has held up great to my abuse!
Summary: Overall these are definately the high quality you would expect from Ariat. I am glad I got a bargain on Ebay, but now that I have had them for awhile I would have no problem paying full retail for them. I am never going to buy another pair of tall boots without zippers again!
