Jumping Saddles
Manufacturer: Dover
Model: Circuit Pro
Category: Jumping Saddles
Purchase: I bought my first Circuit saddle from Rick's Heritage Saddlery (www.saddlesource.com). (If your looking to buy a used saddle this is a great place! They have hundreds of used saddles and most have been demos so they're basically new.) I bought a Circuit Pro 17.5 wide tree as a demo saddle for $699 with free shipping, I could have purchased it new for $999 from Dover. After having a Courbette Alpina(which I hated) for 3 years I was in need of a saddle that I could jump in all day and not have a sore bottom at the end of the day.
Likes: I love everything about this saddle. Circuit saddles are made at the same place as the Pessoa saddles just with the thicker less pricey leather. I've ridden in it maybe 3 times and oiled it twice and it already has that broken feel! The seat is super soft and flat which I love very flat seats. Dover says that it has a medium deep seat, but it rides like a flat seat. The knee rolls are perfect and make you feel secure even over big fences. The knee pad is also sculpted which adds to the secureness of the knee roll. The stitching is awesome and looks like great. Many people that have seen it at the barn think that it's a much for expensive saddle. The flaps are cut for jumping but all also good for flat work too! Which is a plus if you ride all round stock-horse hunters like me.
Dislikes: If you look at it in the Dover Catalog it appears to be a reddish brown, but its more of a reddish orange color in person. But after being oiled with darkening oil it is a rich reddish brown color. Color really isn't that important for me so it's not so much that I don't like it but some people may not. On a plus said it took oil very well. The breast collar dee is brass so you have to polish it every now and then to keep it shiny. (Again not a big thing) All in all I really don't have anything bad to say about it. But those are some things that you may want to consider when buying one.
Quality: The leather was cardboard like when I took it out of the box, but after riding and oiling only two times the leather came to life and is soft and supple and after only a limited time has the broke in feel to it. The saddle is put together very nicely and the stitching like a said before is great.
Summary: I have never seen a used Circuit saddle and now I know why! The Circuit Pro is a great saddles for the price! I love it! They are built like Pessoa saddles with thicker leather(which is better in my opinion). If you would like to ask a question about it please feel free to email me!
