Purchase: I purchased a Crosby Centennial close contact at a tack store used, but in like-new condition. The price was $598.00 US plus tax. The saddle has a wider tree which I like, because I have a hard-to-fit Arab with a flat, wide back and the saddle fits perfectly. It will also fit Quarter Horses and many other breeds with minor adjustments, like a pad. The saddle retails for $1,995.00 in the US, but I have seen them for sale for over $3,200. in some tack stores. New Centennials come in a variety of tree and seat sizes and also two flap styles.
Likes: This is a very comfortable saddle and very secure. The previous owner had never oiled the saddle and it looked like it had only been ridden in a few times. After I tried it and knew I loved it, I oiled it and it looks beautiful. I read in another review that Crosby no longer makes this saddle, yet tack stores still offer it for sale new.
Dislikes: So far there is nothing I dislike. The soft leather of the seat and knee roles could be prone to scratches if you don't take care of it, but that can happen with any saddle.
Quality: The saddle is high-quality and made in England. It has a very soft, wider seat which is very comfortable. It also has foamed-filled soft knee pads with small knee blocks under the flap. If you buy one new, you have a wide choice of fits.
Summary: I would highly recommend this saddle to anyone who likes a quality close contact saddle with comfort and security. The position of the knee pads and blocks also help keep your leg back in the proper position. It also fits a wide variety of horses.
