Purchase: I bought these boots new from the tack store when they were THE boots to have--about 6 years ago. At that time I think they retailed close to $400. I liked them at first, but I ended up really disliking them. I'm glad they're discontinued!
Likes: Ariat always turns out high quality leather and durable boots. Unfortunately these aren't their best effort (see below!).
Dislikes: At first they seemed great, and I thought once they were broken in, they'd fit perfectly. Unfortunately, because the leather is doubled in thickness and other design issues, they never really broke in, and my legs would always cramp up because they were too tight. I would get charlie horses in my calves while on course at shows! It was horrible. They were the right size, however, and felt fine walking around. But I found that I never wanted to wear them unless I absolutely had to. Too painful, and they never molded to my leg and got comfortable the way tall boots should once broken in. I chatted with a salesperson at Dover Saddlery today, and she explained to me that this was a common problem with the boot, which is why they've been discontinued. I love Ariat, but I was so put off by these boots.
Quality: Leather is way too thick, even though it's nice leather, so they never break in quite right. The tread on the outside also looked funny--I've noticed Ariat has discontinued this as well.
Summary: I'm so disappointed in Ariat about this boot, but the Heritage II seems way better! I'm going to buy them instead.
