Purchase: I recently acquired an Arabian and based on his previous 'cowboy' training and his reaction to it, knew that I wanted to go treeless with him. But never having bought a treeless and a limited budget I was hesitant to buy a Bob Marshall saddle and opted for a less expensive Hilason treeless saddle. That being said I didn't want to skimp on a pad. I wanted to make sure I did not hurt his back so started researching the Skito pad.
I emailed one dealer who when they learned I'd ordered a Hilason, made a derogatory remark re; the saddle and simply 'call me'.
I thought there had to be a 'better way' with someone who didn't start out making me feel like I'd made a mistake. So I came across Carousel who actually turned out to be Skito Enterprises. I called their 800 # and talked to Tom. I can't tell you how knowledgeable and helpful he was. He definitely knows his 'stuff'. He said they had just cut a pattern specifically for the Hilason saddles as they were getting more and more orders for them. He knew the exact differences in the brands, made recommendations and politely discussed my saddle choice. I ordered a custom fabric that's no longer manufactured and including freight paid $175.88. I felt totally confidant in ordering the pad.
Likes: I was able to order a pad with little to no experience with treeless due to Tom being so knowledgeable. I could pick my fabric and the padding was based on the weight I gave him (don't ask!! LOL) And knowing that this Skito was specifically engineered for MY saddle - I am thrilled with Tom and Skito Ent/Carousel. The saddle was custom order and am waiting for it to arrive so I can use my pad.
But I just had to write a review for anyone looking for a treeless pad - Tom @ Carousel/Skito Ent is definitely the man to call.
Dislikes: I haven't gotten to use my pad - am waiting on the saddle, but so far there isn't anything I don't like about it. This pad will last me for years
Quality: The craftsmanship and materials used are GREAT and exactly what I ordered. The fabric, stitching, padding - everything. The padding is based exactly for my weight. It is hand numbered on the tag, so that if there are any problems, there is an exact record of this specific pad.
Summary: Anyone considering a pad for treeless, I would definitely call Skito/Carousel direct and ask for Tom. He will answer any and all questions - even those you don't know enough to ask. And you'll get a quality product.
