Cashel
Crusader Fly Masks for Horses
Fly Control

Manufacturer: Cashel
Model: Crusader Fly Masks for Horses
Category: Fly Control

Purchase: Bought online from state line tack, cost $19.95. My oldest mask is 5 years old and still in great shape. I don't buy very many as they really last an amazing time.

Likes: Before I got the Cashel Crusader masks. I spent a lot of time searching my pastures for lost masks. The Cashel Crusader mask always stays securely in place (even when the horses are turned out with a yearling that likes to remove them). I love that it is so wonderfully form-fitting, it has sufficient space for thick jowled horses, plenty of eye-room and I love the central opening which has plenty of room for my andalusian's thick forelock but not enough to create gaps that can allow pesky flies to crawl inside. I really love the elastic sides and the stretchy velcro that give a perfect fit to every horse, every time, even on my andulasian's big honking head (pardon me, hawk-like profile).

Dislikes: The big drawback is that it takes an extra 2 seconds to put the mask on.

Quality: This is a tough mask. the smooth fabric doesn't pick up burrs, weeds or grass seeds and despite the briars and brambles that have ruined many lesser masks, the Cashels have remained unscathed despite their consistent use. The mesh is strong enough to provide not only protection against flies, but also provides a physical barrier to protect the eye itself against common pasture hazards such as twigs, thorns and briars. My yearling has destroyed a lot of masks, mostly ones that he has removed from other horses and they have been replaced with Cashel Crusaders. He cannot remove them and so far the only Cashel Crusader I have had to replace was as the result of an act of dog.

Summary: I was pleased that a good looking economical mask would be so durable. My wide faced horses have had problems with fit, particularly in the eye region but the Cashel fits all my horses equally well, from TB, QH, draft cross mutts to my pure spanish andalusians. The look, the form, the fit, and the function of this mask is superb.
