Purchase: Purchased from Nancy at Duett Deutsche Sattlerei (www.duettsaddles.com). Nancy promptly shipped me saddles for a trial. Duett has a great trial policy and the shipping was reasonable. I was not in the market for a trail saddle (I like to ride dressage and trail), but one try and I was hooked! Cost was $949.
Likes: This is absolutely the most comfortable saddle I have ever sat in! The seat is double cushioned with foam and the flaps are well padded with a knee and thigh block (that are removable w/ velcro). The saddle looks and feels like an all purpose saddle - but the balance is better on it. I have ridden this saddle through spooks, scoots, hops and jumps and my seat and leg remained secure keeping me balanced with my horse. It is also balanced enough from hip to heel that I will often school a bit in the ring with it then hit the trail for a relaxing ride. There are also lots of rings for your gear and wool flocked panels for adjustability.
Dislikes: No dislikes - very pleased with quality & performance. The panels do not have stuffing slots, but this is not a big deal. The saddle fitter made her own slots and found the saddle easy to work on. This is my second Duett saddle, the first is the dressage model called the Encore.
Quality: The saddle has beautiful workmanship and leather and is a great value. The stitching is recessed to reduce wear, the leather breaks in nicely and is very supple. The quality is the same as saddles costing twice the price. The tree is also the traditional wood spring.
Summary: I cannot say enough about this saddle. It certainly saved my rump a few times on the trail and is comfy on the long haul. In my humble opinion, the quality exceeds what you expect for a saddle in this price range. Nancy was a dream to talk to and help with sizing issues. A great value and great saddle.
