Purchase: I finally managed to buy this from The Horse Store in Calgary after trying to buy it from Apple Saddlery and Foxhunter online. Foxhunter had a very good price of $1698 but it was out of stock and I would have to wait 4 days to order and 3 weeks to receive it and it may have been more. Sometimes it's hard to spend money!I managed to buy a used saddle for $1700 including complete gullet system and leather girth. I had 8 days to try it out.
Likes: I wanted this particular saddle because of the combination of quality leather saddle and flexibility of tree size. My horse is a 3 year old so I expect to use the gullet change. The saddle is very comfortable has large pads to spread the riders weight which wouldn't do so well on a short backed horse but are excellent on mine. Looks great too, very classy. Mine is brown can get black but proved tricky for me as I couldn't find one in stock.
Dislikes: It proved difficult to find one in stock but then I do live in a rural area. I found the gauge difficult to use and instead did trial and error with the gullets working down to a narrow gullet. The gullets are best changed with a friend at hand to hold bits! I also bought the matching stirrup leathers but the 54" come up very short and there was no end left to put in the keeper.
Quality: The construction and quality are first class which you can see when you take the saddle apart to change the gullet.
Summary: Beautiful saddle available at a reasonable price. Should prove value for money in the future as my horse grows or I have another horse I want to use the saddle on. The cair system seems kind to the horse too.
