Purchase: I found a seller on eBay that sold these boots new with warranty. I paid $21/boot including S&H. I originally purchased them for use in a parade. I hate to see a horse slip and slide on the asphalt. My driveway is asphalt and they would come in handy there, too.

Likes: The price is about the only good thing about it, but I suppose that you get what you pay for. These would be good to wear through founder or to protect an abscess instead of wrapping with a diaper and duct tape as long as you could check on it periodically throughout the day for turning and chaffing.

Dislikes: These boots came off twice before the parade even started. No amount of tightening kept them on (even having big, strong, men try to crank it down wasn't enough.)When they weren't coming off they were turning, chaffing and cutting into his heels. I took them off less than 1 mile into the parade and never used them again on this horse, who is barefoot but has been barefoot for years and has tough soles. I recently acquired a rescue horse with severe founder so the first thing we did was pull his shoes. These boots do alright when there is very restricted movement and help him support his weight, but now that he is doing some light trail riding on soft, flat, well manicured trails they turn and cut into his heels, too. They aren't too big for him, in fact, they are very snug, but not too small.

Quality: Rubber with cinch closure, sturdy and easy to clean

Summary: A good item for the price for some medical conditions (with limited mobility) to protect the hoof and keep medications in say for an abscess or founder. I'll use it in a stall or small paddock but not in a pasture and don't even think you can do ANY riding in it. Rarely stays right at a walk let alone any other gaits. Not a trail boot. I'm looking at Boa Boots now. If only you could try before you buy!
