Manufacturer: SoloComb Limited
Model: SoloComb
Category: Grooming Equipment
Purchase: My Thoroughbred mare now refuses to have
her mane pulled and it had gotten just too long, too hot on her neck, a chore to maintain. I had heard about mane pulling combs with a blade so I thought I'd check it out at the local tack shop. Well, those devises are about the size of a toothbrush and would never be able to handle the thickness of the mane.
Then I saw the SoloComb and thought the $33.95 was pricey but I found it for $2 less at another retailer and I was desperate to do something about that mane without resorting to scissors {a No-No!}
Likes: Well...it did take off the length
Dislikes: Frankly, I think for what it is, it
is overpriced. The handle is plastic,
I was worried that it would crack if
I dropped it {I'm clumsy.}
The package clearly states "This remarkable
product will achieve the same result as
a conventional pulling comb." HARDY-HAR-HAR!
HA-HA. Well, as anyone who has pulled a mane knows, the pulling removes hair from
the roots so it not only shortens but
thins as well. I guess I should have known
that there would be no root pulling with
this device. The edge of the mane is
probably not as blunt as if {gasp!} scissors were taken to it as there is a little natural uneveness on the ends. But the mane is still really thick...shorter, I grant you, but really thick.
Quality: Plastic handle with blade/comb combination.
Comb portion easily removes for blade cleaning/replacement. Black, blue and purple color selections at time of purchase.
12 month guarantee. Made in Britain.
Instructions state to backcomb the mane
as if pulling, then instead of pulling the remaining strands down, lift them UP. A
lever on the handle depresses to clip the hairs.
Summary: It is too expensive for what it doesn't do.
I was taught never to take scissors to a mane. But if I'm going to get the same
look anyway, wouldn't a pair of blunt tipped scissors do the same thing
at a lower price???
