Purchase: I bought this saddle from Dover after having my eye on it for a while. It was on sale for $999, so I couldn't pass it up! Regular price is $1799. I needed a new saddle with a long flap these days for Hunters.
Likes: I am used to the old-style Crosby Prix de Nations that have absolutely ZERO knee pads and are flat as ever. I love those Crosbys. So, I was happy to find that the BdH's knee pads and blocks are not overboard. The saddle is comfortable to and fits my horses well. On high-withered thoroughbreds and no-withered horses, it still fits. This saddle still allows you to have some close contact since bulk is minimized. The leather is wonderful...supple, high-quality, good color, and smooth. Great color for chestnuts. The recessed stirrup bars are nice. Just don't try to put leathers on while the saddle is girthed onto a horse...quite difficult, and much easier to do off of a horse. Beautiful stitching and sturdy hardware. Nice long flap for us nice long-legged people.
Dislikes: The seat is a bit deep, so be sure to go a half inch larger if you are unsure. I am not use to a deeper seat, but I think I'll get used to it since it IS comfortable and doesn't get in the way of my riding style.
Quality: Fantastic quality throughout, and smart construction.
Summary: A steal at this sale price! The grained leather is fully priced at only $1499, so great price there too! You won't lose with the quality and fit.
