Purchase: I purchased this blanket because new horse, Elmo had been nutritionally deprived. He had no coat of his own and needed a blanket to keep him warm in the bitterly cold Illinois winters. I paid $130.00 at PetSmart State Line Tack.
Likes: I like the blanket because it fit him and the straps were long enough to accommodate him as he gained weight. It also kept him warm without making him sweat. He'd never had a blanket before so getting to hot was a concern. I also liked the fact that it could be taken apart to put in the washing machine.
I think the other horses were picking on him because he was so emaciated; when he got to wear the blanket to hide his skinny body he actually began to strut a little.
Dislikes: Well, after a few months of him wearing the blanky, I took it home to wash it and found that both plastic zippers on each side had broken. Lucky for me, my washing machine is extra large and it fit without taking it apart.
Quality: The blanket, with the exception of the zippers, is constructed very well. It has velcro that encloses the zippers so it doesn't rub on the horse. It last one winter and is now in the wash to go through another winter! With my horses that's a great blanket.
Summary: If you intend on this blanket coming apart easily to wash, don't count on it. I do, however, feel safe with my horse wearing it. It's lightweight and, more importantly, Elmo feels it's quite fashionable for him to strut around in.
