Purchase: I saw the Newer Spreader advertised in all the horse magazines. I was looking for a manure spreader that was easy enough to move around by hand, yet able to handle the output of 2-3 horses. I ordered it on line, their web site was easy to use, and now offers spreaders in different colors. I have had mine 5 years now, I believe I paid the same price that they are asking today, $675. I got the optional agitator for $45.00 and recommend getting this too. I noticed now they are offering pressure treated wood so if you live in a damp climate I would recommend that too.
Likes: This is the most valuable piece of barn equipment I have. If you're like me, you tend to over load the spreader but even then it spreads easily and is well balanced so you can move it around by hand. It was easy to assemble with directions you can understand. When you're ready to spread your manure, it really is easy to use the kick in lever to engage the spreader.
Dislikes: It doesn't spread heavy dirty straw or large grass hay that goes out with the manure, as it tends to bind it up, but the directions tell you that. I wish that it would fit through a standard 4' stall door.
Quality: My spreader sits out in all kinds of weather, from freezing temps to over 100+ in the summer and works every time. The only area that shows wear is the wood on the top is starting to dry out, but some weather sealer will fix that. There is no rust on any parts and no maintenance that needs to be done. The tires are traction solid rubber so you'll never get a flat. It maneuvers handily to hook on to either a lawn tractor or 4-wheeler.
Summary: This spreader has eliminated my manure pile, and reduced my fly problem almost 100%. If you have a small horse operation, you can't go wrong with this piece of equipment. I can't see where I'll need to ever buy another one.
