Purchase: I purchased my first pair of Boa Hoof Boots with Buy It Now on EBay from Agriventures for $135, shipping included. I decided to go with the Boa Boots on my farrier's recommendation. My newly acquired horse had metal shoes on all fours. Having never had a shod horse before, I couldn't wait to get those metal shoes off of his hooves. My horse toes in, and the metal shoes tend to wear rather quickly, so reshoeing him was not an option for me, however, he needed hoof protection.
Likes: The thing I like the most about the Boa Boots is that they work extremely well at preventing my horse from wearing his hooves down abnormally, due to his toeing in. They are extremely easy to put on and take off. They are well-built and very rugged. The price, while it might initially seem high, is a better bargain than going with metal shoes, given the fact that the Boa Boots last longer.
Dislikes: I don't like the protective caps that must be used to protect the gear; they come off easily. By the time you realize you've lost one, it's too late. Replacement caps are only $1.50, but when you figure in shipping, they are quite expensive. According to Easy Care's website, replacement caps are on back order. I managed to find some by doing a Google search. It appears as though Easy Care has already recognized this problem, and has updated the product to have this protective cap attached to the boot. Putting the boot on with the gaitor inside can be difficult. I ride without them and don't have a problem with rubbing.
Quality: The Boa Boot is very well constructed of high quality materials.
Summary: I am impressed with how well Boa Boots are made, how well they work at protecting my horse's hooves, and how easy they are to use. I am waiting for the new, improved attached cap to hit the store's shelves and will be ordering another pair for my horse's back hooves. Boa Boots are simply a great product. I highly recommend them.
