Purchase: I got these gloves to go with my gaming attire - I compete in speed events with my horse and wanted a comfortable glove that would give me lots of grip and match my show gear (which is mainly hunter green).
I paid approximately $20.00 Cdn for these from a tack store in the Toronto area. I had seen the SSG Lycrochet gloves before, but never in hunter green. I had to get these ones!
Likes: The colour. It's a true hunter green (not some dull colour) crochet back with pigskin palm.
The glove is breathable, cool and provides good grip on the reins.
I like the velcro tab closures at the wrists so I can adjust how snug the glove is.
Dislikes: While I like the idea of a crochet back glove, it's not a tough material. The crochet catches easily on many different things (you're working around a horse, remember!) and once it catches, it starts to fray.
One small area has frayed and because I don't know how to fix it, and I don't want it to get worse, I've bought another pair of SSG gloves and have started to wear them instead (SSG All Weather).
Another thing, which is a bit odd, is that the thumbs are made really short. The glove fits all of my fingers really well, but the thumbs are pretty short.. (I don't have long thumbs either). When I wore the gloves, I just ignored it - it didn't affect my grip at all.
Quality: Good construction typical of SSG products. I know it's not their fault, but it would be great if they (or someone else) could invent a tougher crochet glove.
Summary: In the future I think I'll stick with regular riding gloves... either SSG All Weathers or any all-leather glove.
