Purchase: I needed a pair of half chaps because the leathers were rubbing my legs. I went to Scott Colburn's Western Wear store (they had some English stuff too) to look at half chaps. I ended up buying a pair of Dublins size XL for $40 over the $80 Ariat All Around chaps. I bought another pair there later and another one from VTO saddlery for the same price.
Likes: I loved the comfort of these chaps. They fit like a second skin around my large calves and conformed to my leg from the first ride. No more stirrup leather rubs! I prefer them over my tall boots, they are much easier to put on. The price is great too, I now own two pairs and bought another for my boyfriend. Why spend twice as much on Ariat All Around half chaps? I have ridden in the Ariats and they were too tall for me but otherwise felt exactly the same as my Dublins.
Dislikes: The only thing I can say is they can't be cleaned because they are suede. The black suede has faded a lot and has stains on inside of the calf from horse sweat. But this only affects the looks, they still function perfectly.
Quality: My first pair I've used for 3 years and after that long one of the snaps came off and part of the seam started to come apart. I went to a shoe repair place and they fixed it for me. I expect many more years out of them. The suede has worn very well with no holes or thin spots. Overall these are great quality chaps and you can't beat the price! They are a bargain for what you are getting! Make sure to get the real suede ones and not he fake washable ones they have out now.
Summary: Since I have already purchased 3 pairs that should speak for itself. For someone on a budget who wants a good quality, comfortable schooling chap these are it!
