Purchase: My wife took her horse to a Myler bit seminar in 1999. Dale Myler presented the different types of bits used for various riding disciplines and behaviours. After he spoke, he watched the way my wifes horse was working with the bit she was presently using. He made a recommendation that she use the short shanked ported barrel and it was a great "All Around" bit her horse and riding style. We bought our first Myler that day for approximately $125.
Likes: The 333 Ported Barrel mouth piece can be used with a number of shanks. We have 3 bits with the same mouth piece with different shanks. This allows us to keep the same mouth piece in our horses mouths and the shanks offer different leverages needed for a variety of uses.
Now you can buy the same designed bit from a "Myler Production Line" at a lower price that offers the same level of hand made quality.
Dislikes: I can't find anything I dislike about the Myler bits.
Quality: The Myler bits present a smooth movement in the horses mouth with no restrictions or pinching. The horse is more trusting and willing to perform.
Summary: We've used the Myler bits for barrel racing, roping and western pleasure. They offer a humane way of communicating with your horse and at an affordable rate.
