Purchase: I bought this saddle at a saddle fitting clinic that Schleese was having at a horse farm in my area. I was at this fitting to get a used Schleese Bordeaux that I just bought custom fit to my horse. I paid $3500.00 for this saddle.
Likes: I love everything about this saddle. I did not intend on buying a new saddle when I went to this fitting, as schleese has an adaptable tree and can fit just about any saddle they make to your horse. The custom saddle fitter (Schleese puts their fitters through years of training prior to letting them out in the field)assessed my horse and the saddle I just bought off ebay and said she could make it fit better, but could not make it perfect due to my horses conformation. I have had many saddles ranging from crosby to delgrange, beval and several passier's and could not get the right fit. She asked me if I would like to try one of her demos that she brought along. She was not pushy at all. The rest is history. After adapting the tree and reshaping the stuffing to fit my horse I got to ride in it. She went to the trouble of fitting the horse and myself just for a trial ride. I sat in this saddle and it was incredible. The saddle was brand new and felt like it was already broken in. The saddle keeps you in position on the flat, in the field or over the largest of fences. I have sat in this saddle for many hours foxhunting and it is like a big comfortable chair. I have also used it over fences large and small and it gently keeps you in position without feeling stuck. My horse thanks me also, the fit is perfect. I no longer have to use the lift pads or thick sheepskin pads to compensate for a substandard fit. It has freed up his shoulder movement and he is more comfortable shifting his weight backward. After regular chiropractor visits for the past few years, the last two times the chiropractor came out to the farm he did not need to adjust my horse, and I attribute this to the properly fitting saddle.
Dislikes: The saddle is perfect in every way. The only downside is that it is kind of pricey and not everyone will be able to afford to purchase one.
Quality: Incredible construction and quality. Soft, yet durable french calf leather, beautiful craftsmanship, and the saddle can be adjusted as your horse grows and develops or fit to any horse you may own in the future.
Summary: If you can afford this saddle buy one! Schleese.com is a wonderful resource and they schedule saddle fittings all over the country. If you get an opportunity to ride in one you will buy it.
