Purchase: Local feed store, $550 used. I don't know anything about the brand.
Likes: I love this saddle. I have been looking for a saddle for 6 months. Really I am the Goldie Locks of saddles. First I got Circle Y flex-lite trail saddle – this saddle was nice, but it was too flexible and moved around a lot, it really changed how my horse carried himself and actually contributed to a few bucking episodes (my horse isn’t one to buck so after the third ride I knew it was the saddle). Then I got a Crest Ridge saddle - what a hunk of junk, I never put it on my horse. I decided to buy a used saddle because I was tired of looking at saddles that cost more than my car OR were junk. This saddle is comfortable for me and my horse (no bucking and he rounds his back to meet the saddle). I love the weight! It isn't too light so it stays put but it isn't so heavy that I throw my back out putting it on my horse. I wanted a general purpose saddle, so I am not sure how it would function as a roping saddle. I have sat in a number of uncomfortable roping saddles, but this one is very comfortable. As an all around, affordable, good quality saddle it is great.
Dislikes: It is medium oil; I would prefer dark oil. It has a slick seat and I would prefer suede ( I may pay to change the seat ).
Quality: Well made and functional. The saddle has a 17" seat, dropped rigging, wood/rawhide tree, 7" gullet, NICE sheepskin fleece and a round skirt. This saddle has NO frills (tooling and silver) but provides quality where it counts (leather, craftsmanship, and tree).
Summary: Now, I know if I spent thousands of dollars I could get a much nicer saddle but this old Wofford will do great for now for trail rides, bumming around the barn, training and light showing/events. I am not giving it a 5, just because I reserve that for the truly great hand made saddles that are works of art - you know the ones I mean.
