Purchase: I had a friend who bought one for a Percheron. I rode in it and was hooked - I bought one sight unseen with a narrower tree for my TB/WB. I think I paid $1,500 for the saddle and fittings and shipping.
Likes: Ooooh, it just lets my leg fall naturally where it should and I feel so secure. No more stress with hip angles. More leg lying against the horse so there is more communication. The seat is quite comfortable, no squirming after 10 minutes to get off. It just feels so GOOD. I could concentrate on the horse. When I used it for the first time in a lesson, my instructor remarked, "when did you suddenly learn to ride?"
Dislikes: Sadly, the tree is not adjustable. I wish it had the adjustability of the Wintec 2000 AP. My current horse needs a wider tree so my Niedersuss sits sadly unused. Resale value does not appear high enough for the quality of the saddle. One thing I don't understand, very few people in NC seem to know what this saddle is and think it is an off brand.
Quality: Lovely heavy black leather that has not crocked at all. Integrity of flocking just as good today as when new. Very solidly built like the old Siegfrieds. All seams well done. Nothing sloppy. Nothing wearing through. This is probably one of the less complicated saddles Neidersuss has, but in my opinion it is one of the best.
Summary: It would be hard to go wrong with this saddle. If I were going to invest money in another leather dressage saddle, I would not hesitate to buy another Niedersuss.
