Purchase: I got this saddle for $1,250 on sale. It was the test model and had a scratch on the seat. I bought it at my local tack shop, Cheshire Horse in Keene, NH to replace my wintec in the summer of 2000.
Likes: It has been six years, and the saddle is better than new. I got a medium tree, and it has failed to fit one horse out of at least three dozen. It looks beautiful, fits me wonderfully, is comfortable, and has not even begun to break down. I've gotten many compliments on it at barns, shows, various trainers, friends.
Dislikes: After switching from H/J to eventing, I'm finding that the balance sets me slightly more forward than I'd like to be for X-Country.
Quality: The grain has smoothed out after six long years of use, and the leather has darkened, but all other aspects are like new. Nothing has stretched, faded, broken, come loose, the stitching is tight, even the girth straps have held up beautifully.
Summary: I love the saddle, but after riding in my trainer's County, I find the balance is much more appropriate for my style than the Pessoa, and makes me feel much more secure. As a H/J saddle, the Pessoa would be perfect, and is very appropriate for Jumpers as well. As an eventing saddle, the Special Envoy just doesn't offer the security that the County does. It is a great saddle, but just was not meant for x-country.
