Purchase: I bought this saddle locally, from a woman who bought it new about 10-12 years earlier. She had used it very little, so it was not even fully broken in when I bought it. I paid $500 in November 2005.
Likes: I love the comfort, quality, and fit of this saddle. I use it for flatwork, some small jumps, and trail rides. I tried a number of other saddles before this (including various models made by Collegiate, Crosby, and Stubben), and the difference in comfort between the Kieffer and the other saddles was like night and day. I think the cut-back pommel helps it fit a variety of horses, since it fits my 15.1 hand, low-withered mare very well but also fit a much taller, higher-withered gelding I tried it on. It is relatively lightweight, the leather is good quality, and it seems to be wearing well.
Dislikes: The leather was a bit stiff at first, but with regular use and oiling it has gotten nice and soft. This model is an all purpose saddle but with relatively straight flaps, so on higher jumps it isn't ideal. That isn't really a weakness of this saddle, which is wonderful for the purposes it's designed for.
Quality: Excellent all around quality. I'm considering getting another Kieffer with a more forward seat for jumping, since I've been so happy with the comfort and quality of this saddle.
Summary: I have been so happy with this saddle that I wonder why Kieffers are not more popular.
