Purchase: I purchased this saddle brand new in 2006 Nov on ebay for 950$. Really great deal. I believe retail is about 2000$. Not a widely known saddle brand in the U.S. so I was able to win it on ebay without many competing bids.
I was in the market for a quality hunter jumper saddle.
Likes: This is an absolutely gorgeous saddle!!
The leather is wonderful!! Very high end. The leather of the seat and kneerolls is very soft. Craftsmanship is awesome. I really liked the light color and it is said to accept oil very well so will darken nicely over time. Beautiful saddle.
Very comfortable to ride in too. French made saddle and they have a nice website forestier.com
Dislikes: Unfortunately, this saddle did not fit my horse. But, I would loved to have kept it had it fit. There was nothing I disliked about this brand or this saddle. It just wasn't the right model for my horse. I would love to find a different model in this brand!!
This Segonzac model is made for a high withered horse that is a little bit on the narrow side. Forestier says it has "exceptional wither clearance." The panels are angled a bit for a narrow to medium horse. The panels are quite thick and the seat is padded thickly too so it sits me just up a little too high. Would be great on a high withered horse.
Quality: As I said above, the quality and construction were very very nice. I have been told by several people that this brand is just like the Luc Childeric brand in quality. Nicer than HDR and almost as nice as Devoucoux. Forestier is very popular in France, of course, and Canada.
The Segonzac model is said to be an all purpose saddle on the website, but it definitely does NOT look AP to me. Looks like jumper saddle and can go hunter because of the squared cantle.
Summary: Bottom line: This is a great quality brand and has several different models to choose from. The segonzac model is a beautiful jumping saddle for a high withered horse.
I am on the hunt for their flatter jumping model, the Calgary or the Atlanta!!
