Purchase: I bought these spurs from Picov's in Ajax, Ontario, Canada for $27.99 (Cdn funds). I needed a spur that would give my horse some gentle encouragement to move forward, but didn't want to go overboard.
I chose the knob-end spur as it's gentle, has no sharp edges and was the mildest spur available.
Likes: The spur can be molded somewhat to the ankle so it sits neither too loose or too tight when adjusted properly. It "gives" without warping or becoming weak.
It also polishes up easily with some soap, water and a damp cloth.
It is just the right amount of motivation for my horse. The knob-end is also a good option for a rider just starting out with spurs as it's more forgiving then the hammerhead variety or spurs with rowels / points.
Dislikes: As with any spurs, if you don't use spur guards (a band of rubber that slides over the spur "arms"), they may rub your boot slightly leaving a dull mark wherever the arms rest.
This is minor though and with a good application of boot polish and elbow grease, you wouldn't be able to notice the rubs.
Quality: Great!
I thought thirty dollars was a bit steep for these spurs, but I don't regret this purchase.
I have bought several items from Cavalier over the past while and am pleased with how they all have held together.
Summary: A great spur to start out with, providing you need one. As a precaution with any artificial aids (spurs, whips, etc) it is wise to have riding instruction so you know how to properly use them.
