Purchase: I read somewhere that cold bits can give a horse's mouth nasty sores. It got me thinking how much I would like a cold chunk of metal in my mouth!! I was talking to a friend about this and she explained that she had saw online that Dover was selling bit warmers. She went to one of the Dover stores the next day and after looking online and realizing it wasn't a big expense I gave her money and asked her to buy one for me. I got the bit warmer from Dover Saddlery for $12.90.
Likes: It is very easy to use. All you have to do to activate it is snap the button inside the pouch. It heats up extremely quickly and is warm within seconds. Due to its shape the bit warmer easily wraps around a bit and stays in place. It can also be used as an icepack (just put in freezer).
Dislikes: After every time the bit warmer is used it needs to be boiled (for five minutes) to re-activate it. This is easy to do, but the time does ad up! Once hot it tends to quickly cool down. However, I haven't really found this a major problem since I put it back in its box after my bit is warm.
Quality: I use the bit warmer almost every day (during the winter) and it hasn't shown any signs of wear. The pouch is a thick plastic and the chemical inside is a blue color which is a liquid when ready to activate and a solid after being used. It seems to be very sturdy.
Summary: It is a great way to quickly warm up your bit and is relatively inexpensive. I would highly recommend this product to all types of riders.
