Lucky Dressage Saddle (youth)
Dressage Saddles
Manufacturer: Prestige
Model: Lucky Dressage Saddle (youth)
Category: Dressage Saddles
Purchase: I purchased this saddle, brand new, in July '06 from a local saddle fitter. I paid $1500 (with tax). I decided on this saddle because I had been looking for a good dressage saddle, and this finally fit me and my horse perfectly! This spring I am hoping to finally buy the children's Joy Jumper saddle, also made by Prestige. This is a great saddle for the price. If you can't fit into this saddle, the OptiMax (the adult saddle) is the next best thing!
Likes: I love how soft and supple the leather already was. NO break-in, it was AWESOME! The leather also does quite well in the rain as long as it is cared for. (I use Lederbalm leather conditioner). It fits like a dream for me and my horse, and more often I am finding tack shops that are starting to carry this wonderful saddle and perform the necessary fittings for it. It has the perfect amount of padding in all the right places! It also puts the rider in a great position without being too forced.
Dislikes: I understand the downfall of this brand, but it makes perfect business sense, so I don't mind too much....
- In order to have the leather on the flaps stay nice and un-worn looking, you have to use the Prestige stirrup leathers, and they are a bit pricey! But the leathers are long-wearing, no-stretch, and well worth the price!
Quality: The saddle is made in Italy, and from what I see, it is GREAT! The flocking is well done, the leather stays nice and doesn't need a lot of maintenance. Like I said, there is no break-in period. I bought the saddle and very comfortably rode in it at a show the next weekend! The billet straps are well made and seem to resist getting wear-marks from the girth. The saddle is truly made to be comfortable for both horse and rider, and puts the rider in a great position (It sure helped me!).
Summary: I absolutely would recommend this saddle to anyone I know. I would try to get my younger students into the Lucky (Youth Prestige saddle), and the OptiMax for the adults. By the way, I e-mailed the saddle company through their website, and I actually got a personal response back from Italy, in a few days. The representative was glad to hear about how much I loved the product....so they really do care!
