Purchase: I wanted to purchase a light weight endurance saddle without the nearly $1500 purchase price for most treeless models on the market. I thought I would like the treeless approach, as it would allow me and my mare long days in the saddle without getting saddle sores. I found this saddle online on Ebay. I paid $299 plus approx. $40 for shipping. It came promptly, and I liked the looks, but found it very difficult to find a short girth to even try it out. I called to seller and told him of my problems finding a pony cinch locally, and he offered to sell me a $70 cinch, which I declined. I finally found a short (22") cinch and tried my new saddle on my mare. The saddle slipped right off her back onto her side when I tried to mount her! I cinched her tighter and got a mounting block and tried again, and it slipped off again!
Likes: It looked really cool and it was so light weight. I would have loved it if it would have stayed on my mares back.
Dislikes: I truly believe this is an unsafe saddle. I would never feel safe loping in this saddle. Mounting and dismounting were a challenge at best as the saddle wants to slip to the side of the horse. Even with an anti-slip pad, I think there is a design flaw with this saddle.
Quality: All in all, the saddle was not very well made. Its construction was of fair quality leather, but what was the most alarming was that it was glued together, not stitched. And since it is treeless, there is really nothing holding it together other than the glue.
Summary: In summary, I cheaped out and will either save my money and wait to buy a real treeless saddle or stick to a saddle with a tree.
Usefulness Rating: 3 out of 5.
