Purchase: I bought this saddle last March through a catalog online. I paid $895 for it on clearance brand new, saddle normally retails new at $1195. I got my first experience with this saddle working for an Arab. trainer. I know this brand is better known in the Arab circuit. I bought this saddle simply to start youngsters...most horses I work with are bred for jumpers or dressage. I couldn't find anyone who wanted to part with a used one.
Likes: The rough out leather broke in quickly (but I used my full length chaps the first few times so I didn't rub my legs raw) Comfortable, even on long trail rides, it's a training pleasure saddle, so I felt more secure than I would in an over fences saddle, but I also feel like I can get out of it quickly if need be. I feel like I can feel everything a horse is doing underneath me! Also has lot of 'training D-rings' for ground work purposes which is nice. I haven't worked a horse in it that it hasn't fit. None of the horses I've worked have been back sore after regular work in it.
Dislikes: Not a thing. I'm not a western competitor. I purchased this saddle strictly for starting colts, and liked the rides I'd had in it at the another barn.
Quality: Good quality. Rough out can be hard to break in, but a few days using my english chaps got it to the point of comfort! The seat is comfortable, and I recently took it on a 5 hour trail ride through sand, water and a sweaty horse. My rear never hurt, and the horse never seemed uncomfortable! Herman Oak leather, lifetime guarantee on the tree, claims the seat is designed to put you over the center of your horse...also boasts 'in-skirt close contact rigging'. I do feel like I'm riding in a western version of my close contact over fences saddle!
Summary: I'd recommend this saddle to anyone for training purposes. Well priced for a quality saddle.
