Purchase: I bought this pad from my riding coach because the saddle I have right now is a little too wide for my horse, at the withers.
She suggested I use this pad until my new saddle (on order) comes in.
I paid $25 (Cdn) for the saddle pad which was lightly used. It usually retails for around $50 new.
Likes: Good construction, good quality. It's held up well - and done the job it claims to be able to do - over and over.
The biggest test was a 6-hour trail ride I went on recently. The saddle didn't sink down onto my horses withers, or lower at all. The pad stayed in place and didn't make the saddle slip, despite several stretches of trotting and cantering.
Dislikes: It's hard to keep clean. The pad comes in white, which blends in nicely with my regular saddle pad, but hair and dust stick to it easily.
I emailed Wintec for cleaning instructions and they couldn't really give me any (weird!) except to say that a mild soap and soft bristled brush might help.
The pad is a bit awkward to place and secure at first (below the saddle, above your regular saddle pad) but once it sinks down, it works great!
You might also need to get a slightly longer girth for when you use this pad, as it adds a little bit of height to the saddle.
Quality: It's a corrective saddle pad made of dense foam that not only absorbs shock, but helps make a saddle fit better.
There are two styles, Lift-Front and Lift-Back, depending on what you need.
Summary: For what it does, Wintec could easily put the price up and it would still be worth it!
It's been a back-saver, literally, for my horse until my new saddle comes in. I highly recommend it to anyone needing a corrective pad. Wintec also says this saddle pad is good for riding sessions where sitting trot will be done to reduce shock and bounce on the horses back.
