Model: Super Grip Horse Boot
Category: Horse Boots and Wraps
Purchase: I was looking for something I could event my thoroughbred in as his feet were in terrible shape and wouldn't hold a shoe. After looking into it for some time and trying other avenues I bought a pair in 2005. I bought from the main company in BC for $360+/-.
Likes: Sensible product. The fact that it is built very well, and all the parts that may wear are replaceable. It had good traction underneath and spaces to put in corks, I had no problems with slipping while riding. The company was quite good to deal with, and in the end did all the returns for sizes quite willingly.
Dislikes: I had to buy a pair, even though my horse does not have a "pair" He has a size 3 and a size 1 fronts. So the big one came off, in the mud, on the flat, over jumps, in the air(!). A little scary for anyone watching as a black missile would go flying up and no one knew where it was coming down. Also, the bigger boot started coming apart as I had to use so much air to try keep it on, the rivets in the back would pull right out. The people at Marquis insisted that I use a pair. They didn't seem to grasp that the horse is actually built like that, and talked about unbalancing him. Until I gave up in frustration and started asking about returning them. They sent me a smaller boot, and it worked quite well, but now the bigger foot twists inside the boot, and his foot won't fit into the next size down. I really wish I could buy them individually.
Quality: Actually for all my trials with this boot, I am quite impressed with the construction. It is well constructed out of a durable material that held up, without a doubt, to all the considerable road work I do. Although, I did read the other review that said they had changed the material. Also the consideration for wear and tear, they have built it to have replaceable parts, which is very practical.
Summary: Good product if you can get the sizing right! Even though I must have frustrated the company all to heck they were still helpful and friendly. Not really as useful - to me - as I had hoped, but that is due more to a flaw in my horses construction than with the product.
