Purchase: I ride CTR, and was having trouble with my horse ending the ride with back tenderness. After ruling out saddle fit issues, I researched saddle pads and decided to try the leather SaddleRight Endurance pad. I purchased it new directly from SaddleRight Inc. I paid $249 for the pad, $30 for a shaped wool pad liner, plus $20 shipping.
Likes: This is the best $299 I have spent on my horse in a long time. I completed a CTR the weekend after receiving the pad, and lost no points for back tenderness! The pad and liner are contoured to fit the horses back, the suede cover ensured that my saddle did not slip on the pad, and the pad itself did not slide around on the horse. The dense material the pad is made with is thin, yet provided awesome protection for my horses back... it gives, but does not pack down.
The company offers a 30 day money back guarantee, the technical part of the pad (the insides) is guaranteed for life to not compress or breakdown. You can also trade in your old pad for a new one at any time for the cost of recovering (about $100), and their customer service is outstanding. They have many standard styles/sizes to choose from, but if you need a something special they will make a pad to your template for an additional $20.
Dislikes: It is a little pricey, but compared to the cost of a new saddle it's very reasonable. The pad is a little heavy in weight... while I did not find this to be a problem, it could be a drawback for some endurance riders that might be close to the line between weight divisions. Other than that, there is nothing that I do not like about the pad.
Quality: The "fit and finish" of the pad is far above anything I found at the tack store, including the so-called "premium" pads that were comparable in price.
Summary: I would net hesitate to recommend a SaddleRight pad to anyone who is looking for an excellent pad that they can use for years.
