Purchase: After struggling to find a jump saddle for my eventing that I felt comfortable in for cross country as well as the show jumping, my saddle fitter brought out several saddles for me to try, she had another Black Country jump saddle which was a great fit and I felt instantly "at home" in, but as with most of their saddles I had it custom made and went for the deluxe version the Maelstrom!!
Likes: You know when you try on a pair on new shoes and just know that they are going to be soooo comfortable, well this is what I love about the Maelstrom, now I don't have to worry about my position and more importantly my security so much and can just concentrate on my riding - which is a good thing!! It is covered in calf leather and it is so supple, I didn't have to break it in either. Black Country are able to offer so many options and don't charge extra for them, it also arrived in 3 weeks amazing - try and get anything else custom done in that length of time!
Dislikes: Absolutely nothing!
Quality: The leather is exceptional, you can tell that this is a hand made saddle and not off a production line! I opted for a serge panel as my mare gets some lumps on her back in the summer and thought this would help, it is like a cushion underneath and actually makes it lighter, it is a wonderful idea, I'm surprised more people don't use this. With it being covered leather their is a lot of stitching which is so neat. My saddle fitter was also able to adjust the flocking really easily to make it a perfect fit.
Summary: A true quality saddle not just in materials but performance to - guess I just have to live up to it now!
