Purchase: I purchased a gaited horse saddle after much research and speaking with the various gaited horse saddle businesses. The model is the Custom round skirt flex-tree 4" cantle suede seat with silver lacing. I decided to purchase from Dixieland because of the ability to try various trees prior to purchase, the different options for both horse and rider, the quality of the saddle and the extreme helpfulness of Cynthia, owner of Dixieland. Two saddles were purchased. The first saddle with numerous options and breast collar was $1000, the second saddle was $900.
Likes: The quality of craftsmanship is outstanding. The attention to detail and workmanship is absolutely beautiful. The saddle was produced as requested and shipped on the date as promised. The fit is perfect. The leather is very good quality. It's a new stiff leather saddle, but should last longer than the softee leathers that are on the market today. I know it will soften and flex with use.
Dislikes: The only thing I don't like is the tie strap did not come with pre-punched holes.
Quality: The Amish and Cynthia care about the quality of product and fit that is produced which is something very hard to find these days in the world of "get it done faster-cheaper" environment. I have another Amish made Quarter Horse saddle from a maker out of Lowry, MO. The quality of the Amish just cannot be matched from cookie cutter production companies. Dixieland saddles offer very nice tooling options and it is hand tooled with exact precision. We purchased two saddles. One in medium leather and one in brown. Medium oil is hard to match throughout the saddle but this saddle's parts were matched perfectly.
Summary: I just cannot believe the cost of the saddle compared to the quality. I am so pleased with this saddle that I will be letting other gaited riders know about Dixieland and the superior customer service that is extended to the buyer.
