Purchase: I bought this saddle from a local eventing barn for eight hundred dollars. I was looking for a 'workhorse' saddle as I ride up to five horses of different types daily.
Likes: The saddle is an absolute classic. Everyone knows that this particular saddle fits virtually everything you put it on. It is absolutely indestructible and cleans up perfectly every time. I've shown hunters, jumpers and dressage in it. Done four hour trail rides. Ridden Paso Finos and gaited horses. Used it as my saddle of choice for breaking in babies. The seat is super secure. The knee rolls just suck in your leg. The flaps are long and secure. The pommel is high enough that it gives mt 16.2 high withered TB clearance I can actually see from the saddle. The panels adapt to Quarter Horses and babies with no withers. I have absolutely used this saddle to death...and it's just as good as ever. There's no wear anywhere.
Dislikes: As time goes by I'm realising I need a different saddle, probably the Stubben VSS type, for jumping. Although this saddle gives you a secure feel over a jump it's hard to get your irons short enough. It's hard to get the 'ideal' position, although I'll always use this saddle for initial jump training because it's hard to fall out of!!!
Quality: Incredible stitching, thickness and quality of leather are hallmarks of this saddle. The knee rolls remain squishy and don't get that collapsed look you see on so many used saddles. All straps and D rings are solid and the flocking hasn't moved an inch. The saddle is perfectly balanced.
Summary: For anyone wanting a trail or daily training saddle that gives comfort, security and durability this is the one. Real value for money.
