All Weather Winter Glove

Model: All Weather Winter Glove
Category: English Casual Apparel
Purchase: I am often riding in very cold weather and needed a pair of winter gloves that would not restrict the contact I had with the reins. I bought these from Dover Saddlery for $28.70.
Likes: These gloves are very comfortable and fit very well. They have thinsulate on the back of the hand to help hold in warmth. They do not restrict the hands in any way and allow great contact with the reins. The wrist closure adjusts to fit a wide range of wrists including my tiny one :) and thus produce a wonderful custom fit feel. They do keep your hands warm in moderate cold and are very durable. Nothing seems to harm these gloves, not water or dirt or even a fall to a sand arena.
Dislikes: These gloves, while offering sufficient warmth, do not protect enough to be worn alone in very cold weather (under 10 degrees F). But because of their thin material they do layer quite nicely and so are still beneficial. Also even in weather near 30 degrees F they only hold in warmth for like a hour or so, at that point the hands do start getting cold. When you are training pretty hard and keeping your core pretty warm though you can go longer. Also the palms of these gloves aren't water resistant at all so don't go throwing snowballs at your buddies in these, it will leave you with pretty cold hands.
Quality: Quality is wonderful, exactly what you would expect from SSG. Strong stitching, high quality material, and very functional design. Though my gloves are 3 years old they do not even threaten to tear. They have even survived a fall to concrete without even being scuffed. They are very washable and sturdy. Velcro remains strong and stitching doesn't frey.
Summary: These are a great winter riding gloves so long as you are working hard (keeping your core warm). They are great when I am training over fences but not so great on quiet trail rides. Quality and construction are great and they fit well and are comfortable. The fact that they aren't waterproof knocks them down to a 4 in my book. For a riding glove they offer a good deal of warmth just be warned as to the limitations. I would recommend.
