Close Contact Saddles
Manufacturer: Crosby
Model: Prix de Nations
Category: Close Contact Saddles
Purchase: I bought this saddle used about 10 years ago and I think I only paid about 200 bucks for it. The main reason I bought this particular saddle is because it fit my very high withered Thoroughbred better than any other saddles that I could find.
Likes: This Crosby saddle has held up so well. It looks about as good today as it did the first day I got it! It's a comfortable saddle for flat and jumping work. I used to even use it for eventing. I really liked how it fit my horse's high withers. I love riding bareback and this saddle is the next best thing. It is great for young riders. They need to learn how to feel the horse beneath them, before riding in a jumping saddle with huge knee rolls. It's a beautiful saddle that I would recommend to anyone!
Dislikes: About the only thing I don't like is that my rear end has just gotten way to big for it, so I'm going to have to start looking for a new one! I guess I can't really blame the saddle for my sweet tooth, so I have to say there is nothing that I really dislike about it.
Quality: Fantastic quality!!! Like I said before, it has shown very little wear after many years of hard use. When I first bought it, there was one nick in the leather. That is still the only flaw in it. After a long week of riding, all it needs is a quick sponge off and it looks next to new again. The stirrup straps have not even shown much wears, which is surprising knowing how much they have been pulled and tugged on. The saddle has even had a horse rear up and flip over on it on two separate occasions. Both times, I had it checked out and no damage occurred.
Summary: If you want a decently priced, well made, close contact saddle, then you should definitely give Crosby a try. It is just all around a great saddle! Good luck with your saddle choice and remember that the most important thing is that you choose a saddle that is the most comfortable for you and your horse!
