Purchase: I have been ranching now for 26 years and I decided I needed a new saddle. I bought this saddle "new" at a saddle shop in Paris, TX. I paid around $800(sale) for it back in 2005. I was looking for a good ranch saddle for doing cattle work, horse training and pleasure riding.
Likes: First of all, I love the Apache design on this saddle. It is truly an "eye-catcher". The saddle has a comfortable seat and the total saddle is made with quality leather. I fit the saddle and the saddle fits me. This saddle comes with a matching 2 1/2 inch breastcollar which is a must have because it makes the rig look so much better. My horse Max loves this saddle. He likes how it feels on his back and he likes how the leather matches his brown hair.
Dislikes: The conchos looked cheap and boring so I bought some new "Southwest" conchos from Tandy's leather shop. Now the saddle looks absolutely perfect! I wish the seat was just a little bit taller but either way it doesn't really matter.
Quality: This saddle features tooling on the rough out leather seat jockey and fenders with a Bullhide covered Pro Roper tree and a full double, Stainless steel dee rigging. The leather is top quality and the tree is solid. The saddle has wool underneath and I bet it isn't real but my horse doesn't care if the wool is real or not. Wool always wears down anyways so I invested in a good thick gel saddle pad. You should do the same for the love of your horse.
Summary: This is a very good saddle and I would buy another Saddlesmith saddle if I needed one. It looks great- feels great- and works great out on the ranch. All smiles here.
