Manufacturer: International (View all products by International Riding Helmets (IRH))

Model: Velvet Show Helmet (View all Velvet Show Helmet reviews)

Category: English Chaps/Boots/Helmets

Purchase: I assume it's between $55-$85 because that's about how much similar IRHs run at stores, but I don't know the exact model. Mine was second-hand for $25 at the rescue where I volunteer.

Likes: It's show-appropriate because it's black and velvet, even though I only showed once, I never know what's going to happen. Besides, I was originally Western, converted to English, and I'm into a toned-down prim and proper look, so this perfect. I've had many tell me how lucky I am to have an International, especially that cheap.

Dislikes: Like any black, unvented helmet, the helmet hair is appalling. I get very sweaty in the summer, but safety is more important than looks.

Quality: The leather/deerskin(?) on the straps is very comfortable and the dirt brushes right off. That satin liner dries quickly. I've had it 2 years and the whole thing looks brand new, even though it's actually 7!!!!

Summary: I will never EVER get rid of this helmet. Although I am outgrowing it, I'll keep after that, too. It's better than any other helmet that I've been loaned and it was my first. *swoons* And... as crazy as it sounds, it is my good luck charm. I've ridden over two years on young, athletic mostly TBs with it and I've only fallen off once (with that helmet on) and I didn't hit my head. I guess I'm dumb, riding with an old, well-used, too tight helmet, but it fits better than my new one. It just holds so many memories (my first canter, first jump, first show, the test ride on my horse), I can't bear to part with it. So you should definitely look into getting one, too. I'm sooooo lucky this is the only one that fit when I was trying them on.
