Purchase: I was going to a horse show and wanted to polish my horses hooves up a little to add to her overall look.
I bought the Absorbine Supershine fast-drying hoof polish / sealer after reading about it in different tack catalogues. I've seen it for as low as $9.99 Cdn, but I ended up paying $10.99 Cdn from my local feed supply store. The bottle is 240ml.
Since my horse is a sorrel, I opted for the clear polish as the black polish might look a little out of place.
The most common method of applying the polish is to load the provided dauber and wipe it across the top of the hoof. Since it's a thin liquid, it runs down and covers the hoof completely.
Likes: It's quick-drying as promised, which is great if you've got a limited amount of time to get ready for your event.
Since the polish is a thin liquid - almost like water - it spreads really well and produces an even coating of gloss.
Dislikes: The shine - it wasn't as good as I expected, but I only put one coat of the polish on. Maybe if I'd used another coat, it would have come up more. Regardless, my horses hooves did look better afterwards.
Quality: Good quality - Absorbine is a great company.
The instructions recommend applying a thin layer of petroleum jelly (Vaseline) around the neck of the bottle so the cap doesn't become glued in place after use.
Summary: I'd imagine that this polish will do me for quite a while... it comes in a small bottle, but spreads well.
I'd buy this again when I need more polish, but will probably look around and get a better price.
