Purchase: I bought this saddle direct from DK in Canada. It was custom made for both me and my horse - this is DK's speciality. The saddle costs about Canadian $5000 but is worth every cent.
I also bought DK's excellent dressage girth to accompany this saddle
Likes: Because of the custom fit, this is the most comfortable saddle imaginable (friends who have sat in it agree). The FLAIR panels give a very smooth feel and my horse goes forward extremely well - relaxed and happy under it.
The saddle can be adjusted as the horse changes - or even for another horse (within reason) so this should be my dressage saddle for life - given that I don't intend to change very much!
Dislikes: Danny Kroetch himself does the adjustments, which is a limiting factor if you are not on his regular "routes" although he does travel about extensively. If it is fitted to a horse that does not change significantly, this is not such an issue.
Quality: The construction and quality are unsurpassed. The tree is adjustable (by Danny, as mentioned above). The FLAIR panels may need to be topped-up occasionally. I have used this saddle for over two years, even out on the trail, and it looks brand new. The girth is also like new, even the velcro buckle-cover sections are holding up well.
Summary: If you are thinking of buying a saddle in the $4-5k range, consider a DK. Why spend that much money on an "off the shelf" fit when you can have one tailored to both you and your horse for the same price. I strongly recommend DK.
