Purchase: I bought this saddle used for $1800.00 and as they sell for $3500.00 retail, it was a remarkable deal, especially seeing as it wasn't even broken in yet. We have a hard to fit thoroughbred gelding who has long, high withers and the saddle fitter felt that this would be a saddle that might work for him due to the way the panels are sewn/flocked.
Likes: The County Stabilizer XTR is well made, puts you in a good close contact jumping position but is also comfortable for flatwork. The leather on the XTR is butter soft and very grippy which I love. The leg flaps are perfectly designed to allow your leg to fall naturally and the knee rolls are just the right size to get into a nice jumping position. After trying many saddles on our horse, i can honestly say, if you have a hard to fit thoroughbred, definitely try this saddle! he no longer swishes his tail upon girthing and is actually moving more freely, letting his back relax. He loves this saddle as much as I do! IT is also very easy to break in and the newmarket leather color is gorgeous.
Dislikes: This is a pricey saddle when bought new and there are not a lot of them available second hand as usually people hold onto them. When I do see them for sale second hand, they hold their value.
Sometimes the leather is so grippy, it's hard to change position quickly.
Quality: This saddle is made in England of very fine quality leather and craftsmanship on a flexible tree that is told to help your horse relax and move his back more free.
Summary: I would definitely recommend this saddle for a horse who is hard to fit or for any horse for that matter. Having the easily reflockable wool panels is very useful if you have a horse that is changing shape due to work or a young horse that is growing.
