Purchase: Looking for a first saddle for my 15-year-old daughter who is a serious rider and Pony Clubber, but wanted to stay within a budget, I found a brand-new Wintec on Ebay for $625, including CAIR and Easy-Change Gullet System. She was attracted to the fact that she could adjust the saddle to fit any horse she rides, since she does not own her own horse.
Likes: She loves it. It does not look at all plasticky like many cheaper synthetic saddles. The Easy-Change Gullet System in fact adjusts the pommel arch, not the gullet; it seems to work well. As advertised, it barely needs any cleaning. It naturally repels dust and sweat wipes off easily with a damp sponge.
Dislikes: When adjusting the saddle from narrower to wider, my daughter noted that initially the saddle was still too narrow for the wider-backed horse. However, after leaving the saddle on a wide saddle barrel for a few hours, it relaxed just fine. It was a bit irritating, though, that it did not fit immediately.
Although Wintec likes to show pictures of people hosing off the saddle, DO NOT DO THIS. My daughter did and the billets (which we later discovered to be leather) grew some white mold -- not dangerous, but a pain to clean off and stiffening. She has had much more success only wiping the underside with a damp sponge and not cleaning the rest -- it doesn't really need it, expect for a little saddle soap on the leather billets.
Quality: Seems excellent -- no problems. Comfortably padded and shaped without being excessively grippy.
Summary: Overall, an excellent saddle!
