Purchase: I have a Friesian mare who requires an extra-wide tree, so meeting this requirement is nothing easy! However, I heard of a saddlery -- Duett Saddles -- who specialize in saddles for wide horses. I actually was able to find one slightly used for $800, although they retail new for only $1075 (duettsaddles.com).
Likes: This saddle is absolutely amazing! My mare is so content and relaxed when I ride in it. It truly allows her freedom of movement without being big and "gappy" in the fit. The knee rolls on the saddle are awesome, and it makes a correct leg position effortless! The deep seat is also wonderful, and I love how it's almost impossible to ride incorrectly -- it just feels wrong, so I automatically adjust to the right position! The shock absorption on the saddle is great too, and it makes sitting the trot actually comfortable. It feels almost identical to more expensive, custom-made saddles. It truly is an amazing saddle!
Dislikes: There is only one thing I don't like about this saddle, and it's so minute that I don't even notice anymore: the second billet strap is positioned farther back than on most saddles (to accomodate the large knee roll), so it makes attaching the billet straps on some saddle pads difficult. Other than that, though, the saddle is perfect.
Quality: Duett saddles are carefully constructed of the highest-quality leather. Tiny details are embellished upon, making every inch of this saddle a work of art. It is not only an extremely durable saddle, it is soft and supple as well.
Summary: I simply cannot praise this saddle enough. Riding is just so much more enjoyable now! I am so impressed by this saddle -- it is one of the highest-quality saddles I have ever seen and I feel so lucky to have one of my own!
