Purchase: Bought this from a local tack store on sale for $1850CND ($2450CND regularly) Wanted a reputable saddle to last me the next several years.
(model I bought was a classic Barnsby Schockemohle, 18" 4 tree with wool flock)
Likes: Leather is nice, and broke in fairly well. The flap took up my leg nicely and the seat was certainly comfortable.
Dislikes: Poorly constructed. Saddle tended to always slip to one side so I took it to a saddler to be examined. The panels were in her opinion very poorly designed, as well as they were mounted crookedly and flocked incorrectly.
Quality: Crooked, the seat leather at the twist is already wearing out after only 4 months of use. The skirt leather is great however and broke in nicely.
Summary: Bought saddle May, used for four months and then had evaluated by fitter in September. Got into contact with Barnsby for repair under warranty, where they agreed to have fixed, then when I sent the quote from the saddler, they said it was too expensive and were only going to pay half the value of the repair. I wrote a complaint letter to the managing director, so they then agreed to send it to their own saddler and have it done at their cost. 6 months later and I still don't have my saddle back.
Prior to purchasing this saddle I would have recommended people to buy it due to Barnsby's reputation for quality saddles. After talking to others who share frustration over Barnsbys lack of customer service, no way! I'm in the process of purchasing a new saddle and will sell the Barnsby if I ever get it back.
