Purchase: I got this bit along with a bridle from a friend. She was cleaning out her tack room and had no use for it anymore. Reinsman sells the bit on their website for $42 and change US (without shipping and tax).
I didn't have much use for the bit either (though I used the bridle) so it layed around my tack room for a little while.
After trying several bits on my mare, who is hard to stop at times and leans on the bit, I was running out of ideas on what to use. I didn't want to try a harsh bit and so was looking around at options.
On a whim, I tried this bit - a loose ring snaffle with a sweet iron mouth. I didn't expect much of a difference from what I had been using before, but what a nice surprise.
Likes: Even though it's a western bit (it was manufactured by Reinsman), I use it on my mare who's a hunter and english pleasure horse - and it doesn't look out of place! The cheek pieces are identical to any loose ring english bit.
My mare goes beautifully in it.. she flexes at the poll and is much easier to stop. She seems to like the sweet iron mouth, which encourages her to salivate as it rusts a little.
Dislikes: Not much - I found a bit that works with my horse!
Quality: Awesome quality.. Reinsman is a great brand. This bit has had several owners and users, but still looks new, apart from a little rust on the mouthpiece (which is normal for sweet iron bits). It also carries a lifetime guarantee from Reinsman.
Summary: I'm so happy with this bit.. glad I decided to give it a try!
