Purchase: I bought the saddle second-hand for the equivalent of $840. I have been searching for a saddle for my medium-wide, high withered TB for the past 3 months! This saddle was the first saddle I put on (after about 20 other hopefuls!) that fit my horse. His high wither made fitting very difficult as saddles that were the correct width (32") did not clear it. I was starting to feel exasperated when a friend suggested I try the Ideal Jessica as apparently they fitted most horses. And it fit perfectly!
Likes: The saddle sits really well on my horse's back, it has smooth, flat panels and fantastic wither clearance. The first time I sat in it, I couldn't believe the feeling of support around my upper thigh area. I prefer large knee block to keep my long legs steady so I was worried about this saddle as the knee blocks are fairly average size. Well, it was not a problem, the whole saddle supports me perfectly!
There are special keepers under the saddle flap through which the girth leathers are threaded - this keeps the flap down and still. I really like this feature!
The rider has the option of also putting the stirrup leathers under the flap so the rider's leg is not in contact with the leathers except at the ankle. I haven't tried this out yet - I think it would feel weird to start with.
This saddle has a flexible tree. It is the first time I have ridden in one and I really like it. I feel more part of my horse's movement, rather than 'perched' on his back.
Dislikes: Nothing - fits me, fits my horse!
Quality: The saddle is second hand, I am not sure how old it is but it isn't the latest version. It still is in great condition, leather looks good, hardly any fading anywhere. Stitching is all intact.
Summary: Great saddle, I am really glad it fits my horse with out assistance, without adjustment, without special numnahs AND I feel comfortable, secure and more able to influence my horse. I am very happy with this affordable, good quality purchase.
