Purchase: I purchased this bit at a local tack shop, Bucks County Saddlery, or BCSaddlery.com. It was $175+tax.
Likes: I bought this for my 17 hand/3 year old draft cross- a spooky freight train!- for use on trails. I didn't want to spoil his mouth with a pelham or twisted snaffle, but a regular or slow twist snaffle didn't give me enough control. The Mikmar dee helped him stay soft, and the copper roller (larger than most you will find) pacified him and calmed him.
Dislikes: A few months after I bought the bit, the one side "froze" in place. I called Mikmar, and they said to send it back to have it repaired. The man I spoke to mentioned that has happened before with their pelham models. I sent it back, and they promptly sent me a brand new bit, with the tags! The turn-around was fast- a week? It was a small inconvenience, but Mikmar couldn't have provided better customer service.
Quality: The design is genius, but be aware it's an aluminum alloy and will dent easily. Be careful not to toss it around after your ride.
Summary: The Mikmar line is really worth trying if you want a different solution than a harsher bit. I haven't met a horse yet who doesn't love the light, ergonomic design.
