Purchase: I had outgrown my previous pair of tall boots that I used for showing and schooling and the pair of el cheapo rubber tall boots I picked up in a stitch (The day before the show- my feet and calves are horrible when it comes to sizing!) definitely were not cutting it. I picked up a pair of Ovation Sport paddock boots at State Line Tack for $30 (on sale, normally about $70) for the purpose of schooling.
Likes: The boots broke in nicely and have become quite cozy! The leather has become very soft and supple with time and a little saddle soap. I ride in them constantly and they're quite comfortable in the saddle. (Very much unlike those rubber tall boots I had before- who ever created those ought to be shot!) I wear them around the barn and my adventures through mud, water and horse poo have yet to demolish them.
Dislikes: The laces are rather long and thin. I have to wrap them around my ankle in order to get them to a manageable length. I also wonder if/when they're going to break, but laces are managed easily enough. It doesn't really affect the quality of the boots, as I can go pick up newer, better laces at Wal Mart for $1.
Quality: The leather seems thin-ish, but it has held up to my abuses thus far. Besides, I'd rather not have clunky block boots on my feet! I feel the quality is great for being half the price of other boots.
Summary: I'd definitely recommend these boots to the equestrian on a budget. They've held up well, are comfortable and don't look half bad. If you don't want to fork out $170 for other paddock boots, Ovation Sports are a great choice.
